Rättvik Officials Visit Cambridge MN in June 2006 |
Rättvik Community has a population of approximately 11,000 people. It is located between Leksand and Mora on the beautiful northeastern shore of Like Siljan. It is in the central region of Sweden. Rättvik is a regional marketplace for crafts, fabric, and textiles. It is also a draw as a tourist resort attracting many people for its swimming and water activities, historic sites, parks and churches. Rättvik offers year-round attractions.
Cambridge and Rättvik became sister cities in 1990. The Sister City Relationship began as a celebration of the Swedish Heritage of the area. In the 1800s, many Swedish immigrants settled along the banks of the Rum River farming the rich soil, building churches and starting businesses. For many years Cambridge hosted an annual festival which is now hosted by Cambridge Lutheran Church, one of the churches founded by Swedish immigrants.
In 2006, the City of Cambridge hosted a three-person delegation from Rättvik. The delegation included the Mayor of Rättvik, Johnny Johnson, its City Manager and its Chamber of Commerce Director.
